5 - S Training at AFI - Nov 1, 2007
On September 26th - 52 employees from the AFI team came together for a training. For some it was a review, for others it was a first time training. Al Baer, Quality Assurance, and Ryan Kapsner, Operations Assistant led the training.
5S categories are: (Are we at the Academy Awards?) Sort/Set in order/Shine/Standardize/Sustain and the winner is SUSTAIN! Al and Ryan both stressed we need to keep up the work we began 2 years ago. AFI's team will continue our monthly audits in each area of the building. Al also briefly explained Kaizen's and what they are and how they will improve our work which ultimately improves our service to our customers. Every month we are encouraging participation by giving a prize to one of our employees ideas.

Artwork Requirements - Oct 2, 2007
When setting up new orders that require either silk-screening or pad printing, we frequently have trouble explaining exactly what is required for artwork to our customers. AFI has in-house silk-screen and plate exposure units. Artwork needs to be the exact graphics sized to fit on the part on a clear sheet of film. Any imperfections on this film will show up on the finished product. E-mail has become a very useful tool for sending artwork. While PDF formats are very popular, they can sometimes be difficult for our Graphic Designer to deal with. Adobe Illustrator files are the file format of choice, it allows the most flexibility for resizing and since it is vector based, text and lines tend to come out much "cleaner" not pixilated. Other popular file formats that will also work include: QuarkXPress, InDesign and Corel Draw. Please e-mail files to quotes@associatedfinishing.com and we will take care of the rest.

Christmas in August?!? - Sep 18, 2007
On Saturday, August 25th, 64 employees and guests loaded a bus heading for The Renaissance Festival in Shakopee, Minnesota. Because of everyones busy schedules in December we chose to celebrate together in August. The Renaissance Festival offers a variety of food and fun and of course shopping. The weekend theme was Highland Fling. I could not believe the number of men in skirts (kilts) that day!!!
From, 1-3 p.m. AFI rented one of the tents on the grounds and we had lunch as a group. The lunch was delicious, Turkey legs, stuffed Chicken, corn on cob, rolls, relishes, mini cheese cakes and cold drinks. During our Royal meal the Royal Insulter was invited to insult Al Baer, Quality Assurance, who was celebrating his 61st birthday that day. At around 3:30 we boarded our bus again and returned home. A jolly great time was had by all
